Costa Rica Biking Adventures

Many of our readers like to travel the world in search of interesting bicycle tours. Bike tours provide riders with an adventure and a learning experience. Plus, it’s nice to make new friends. We recently spoke to one biker who owns some Costa Rica real estate where he spends a lot of time vacationing. He gave us the scoop on the tours available down there, and we’ll share that information with you.

Costa Rica is a hot ticket right now. Nestled between the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean, the small Latin America country has made great economic strides in recent years. It has become the world’s fifth-largest producer of microchips. The laws favor financial investment and are business-friendly. Taxes are low. This environment, along with the lush tropical beauty and pristine beaches, has contributed to a thriving American expat community living there. And Americans have brought their love of bicycling with them.

There are many places to explore in Costa Rica. Our friend has a house in La Fortuna, which is right at the base of the Arenal Volcano – a great location to ride. He tells us that there are excellent one-day bike tours available at the volcano, but you can also sign up for extended, all-inclusive multi-sport vacations that hit many of Costa Rica’s most fascinating locations. Tour companies have local consultants that offer expert vacation planning advice. You can choose between an active or relaxed itinerary, and anything in between. They make hotel reservations and transportation arrangements for you that are tailored to your preferences and budget.

Here are some examples of featured tours:

  • Eight-Day Multisport Adventure to Arenal and the Pacific Coast – This one is great for intrepid mountain bikers. If features riding on quiet rural roads, hiking within the rainforest, white- water rafting down the exciting Pacuare River, and snorkeling and canoeing in the Pacific Ocean.
  • Seven-Day Bike Tour to Volcanoes, Forest and Beach – A popular mountain bike tour with exciting rides throughout rural Costa Rica, including the northern Volcanic Range and the Pacific Ocean’s tropical beaches.
  • Half-Day Ride Arenal Volcano to El Castillo – This one is a classic mountain bike excursion taking place at the foot of Arenal Volcano and the surrounding lake.
